Bar Kap opened in May 2026 inside the House of Tan Yeok Nee on Penang Road, the last of Singapore's Four Grand Mansions and a national monument built in the 1880s by a Teochew pepper merchant. The 68-seat bar is run by Gaia Lifestyle Group, and the two lancet windows above the back bar, which look like a cat's ears, became its logo.
The drinks list moves through the house's history in four chapters: the Kapitan era of Tan Yeok Nee himself, the British station master who lived there in the early 1900s, its years as a home and school for Eurasian girls, and the present-day Dynasty era. Expect signatures like the cognac-based Lancet, the Lights Out martini with mandarin and pandan, and thoughtful zero-proof options, mostly S$20 to S$32.
Without open-fire cooking in a heritage building, the kitchen sticks to Southeast Asian dishes with a family touch, such as slow-cooked pork jowl with the owners' sambal matah, Mee Kapitan and a beef rendang bao. Ideal for a date, an out-of-town guest or anyone curious about old Singapore. It is a short walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT.
Bars tweak their hours and menus often, so it's worth a quick check before you head out.
