Cabinet 8

A street away from Jalan Petaling, Cabinet 8 hides behind an unassuming shopfront signed 'Neighbour Club', the bar's retro daytime shop. Step through a set of cabinet doors and the room turns sultry and grown-up, with sleek wooden tables, low brass lighting and booths for groups.

Self-taught bartender Justin Tay leads the bar, and Malaysian ingredients feature in every drink. A whole section of the menu is given to tea, with oolong, lapsang souchong, pu'er and jasmine distillates worked into classics, while other serves use ambarella, jackfruit, Sarawak black pepper or Borneo bambangan mango. The Macurryta infuses a margarita with curry leaves from Johor Bahru, and the savoury Double Special comes with a little slider.

Cabinet 8 entered Asia's 50 Best Bars 51–100 list at No.65 in 2026 and is in Tatler's Best 20 Bars Malaysia 2026. Good value, fun and easy to combine with Penrose nearby.
