Bar Mizukami

Bar Mizukami is modelled on the intimate, virtuoso cocktail bars of Japan. There are just ten seats around a small horseshoe-shaped bar of slatted wood and soft lighting in an otherwise bare room inside Bangunan Ming Annexe on Jalan Ampang, so all the attention falls on the bartender.

Founder Shawn Chong, who has more than 18 years behind the bar, is often the only one working. There is no fixed menu: guests talk through what they like and get a bespoke drink, which might be his take on a jungle bird, a sake-infused martini or a Fuji apple and plum drink with whisky. The signature FloWari mixes umeshu, coconut water and hinoki bitters with a spirit of your choice. On Saturdays the Midday Diner serves Malaysian dishes such as nasi banjir Nyonya.
