Modernhaus

Modernhaus sits on Jalan Senopati and takes its cues from mid-century modern design, with a custom open-plan bar, shaped like a kitchen island, that lets guests sit or stand right up against the bartending. The name plays on 'haus' as both house and the Indonesian for thirsty.

The drinks are led by Mirwansyah Bule, whose ingredients-first menu explores the anatomy of plants: root, fruit, leaf and flower. Expect local botanicals such as pohpohan, betel, turmeric, kenanga, cempaka and melati alongside reworked modern classics like the Martini, Penicillin and Espresso Martini.

A full food menu runs from cheese puffs and fried prawns to a pepper burger, orecchiette with terasi arrabbiata and roast chicken. Modernhaus was named Best Bar in Indonesia and Best New Opening at Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025, where it ranked No. 12. Open Monday to Saturday from 5pm; book ahead at weekends.
