Koda hides on the second floor of the Sudirman 7.8 building: walk towards a nondescript sliding fire-escape door to find a 40-seat Japanese bar with warm, modern-classic design and music pitched for easy conversation.
Founded by Yutaka Nakashima with bartender supervisor Kumara Sobirin, Koda follows Japanese bartending tradition in technique and service. The menu covers classics, signatures and barrel-aged cocktails, and the bartenders will build a bespoke drink after asking about your preferred base spirit, flavours, strength and style.
The name comes from the musical coda, the passage that brings a piece to its close, which suits a bar built for the last drink of the evening. It suits after-work drinks for the business district crowd as well as cocktail enthusiasts who enjoy watching precise technique. Open Sunday to Thursday 5pm–midnight and until 2am on Friday and Saturday; reserve by phone or Instagram.
Bars tweak their hours and menus often, so it's worth a quick check before you head out.
